Meet the Securities Commissioner

Jeff Wagaman

Jeff Wagaman was appointed Acting Securities Commissioner on January 28, 2019 by Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt. He was confirmed by the Senate on April 5. Wagaman has over 30 years of public service experience in a variety of Kansas state agencies.  Most recently he worked for the Kansas Attorney General as Executive Director of the Crime Victims Compensation Division.  He has also served as the Assistant State Treasurer of Kansas for six years, Executive Director of the Kansas Corporation Commission (Kansas’ utility regulatory agency) and he has worked as Deputy Secretary and Acting Secretary of the Kansas Department of Administration.   

Wagaman received his bachelor’s degree in communications from Washburn University and his Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.  Wagaman was chosen as “Public Administrator of the Year” in 2001 and is a 1996 graduate of the “Leadership Kansas” program.  He is active in a variety of volunteer programs in the Topeka area.  Wagaman is a fifth generation Kansan and life-time Topeka resident.
