Meet the Securities Commissioner

Pursuant to 2017 legislation, Kansas Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer, CPA, appointed John Wine to serve as Securities Commissioner, subject to Senate confirmation, for a term ending January 17, 2019. Wine is an attorney most recently serving as the Assistant Insurance Commissioner. 

The Office of the Kansas Securities Commissioner (KSC) is now a division of the Kansas Insurance Department (KID). Prior to his service at KID, Wine practiced utilities law after two terms on the Kansas Corporation Commission, serving as chair for six years. He had previously served as the Kansas Securities Commissioner from 1995 – 1996, and been General Counsel and Assistant Secretary of State from 1981 - 1995.

Wine practiced law in his native Wichita and taught Administrative Law at Washburn Law School for 10 semesters, where he was voted Adjunct of the Year in 2008. He is the co-author of the book Kansas Business Law; a Practical Guide for Non-Attorneys and has served on the board of many charitable and religious organizations. He and his wife have grown children and a grandchild.
